Drive or Fly

Regional airports, such as OAJ, have been servicing passengers for decades across the country. There is a reason these exist, alongside larger international airports.  In essence, these airports support local industry and are here to meet a societal demand while providing top-notch service to travelers. As time moves on and the general population increases, larger airports experience peak loads during typical busy travel times each year. Regional airports serve as spokes to the hubs that are represented by larger airports. When you choose to fly with a regional airport, there are several benefits that occur, not just in your own life – but others as well. Let’s have a look, shall we?

Each year nearly 330,000 air travelers take advantage of OAJ, making their travel experience overall better. In addition to this, jobs are created and supported by utilizing our regional service, 370 at OAJ alone. Less fuel is used by people choosing air travel over driving to their destination, which is environmentally considerate. As I mentioned, nearly 330k travelers use our service, so that means the equal number of cars are off the roads, helping to reduce traffic congestion. The fuel for 330k cars would far surpass that of what is needed to fly by jet, at a stately 500mph.

Air travel is also considerably safer. “In absolute numbers, driving is more dangerous, with more than 5 million accidents compared to 20 accidents in flying. A more direct comparison per 100 million miles pits driving’s 1.27 fatalities and 80 injuries against flying’s lack of deaths and almost no injuries, which again shows air travel to be safer.” – via USA TODAY.  With that being said, you’ll get where you are going quicker, comfortably all while taking an inflight nap, if you wish. “
Statistically speaking, flying is far safer than driving. However, it may feel more dangerous because risk perception is based on more than facts, according to David Ropeik, risk communication instructor at Harvard School of Public Health. Driving affords more personal control, making it feel safer. In addition, plane crashes are catastrophic, killing more people at once, which grabs more attention and makes people more sensitive to them. Car crashes happen every day and spread the loss over time, making their combined effects less noticeable.” – USA TODAY

When you consider the level of safety, environmental benefits, time savings and all the other benefits of air travel, it’s really a simple choice to make. We’re all for a good road trip from time to time, but at the end of the day it is in your best interests to fly with a local regional airport to get to your destination.
